The Higher Education Institute (HEI) began 12 years ago as a program to help high school and college graduates from foster care prepare to transition to college and/or the workforce.  In the early years, the event focused on post secondary and higher education preparation.

HEI provides a wide array of workshops, special events and links to supportive services for youth transitioning to independence. As part of the two day event, the youth have an opportunity to compete for cash and other prizes during the evening talent show.

This exciting event takes place annually at the Atlanta Renaissance Hotel near the airport. This two day event is the prelude to the annual Celebration of Excellence Graduation Ceremony honoring the education accomplishments of foster youth graduating from high school or college.
